Statement of Purpose

An AASL president needs to be as creative as a quilter. With the big picture in mind a quilter selects colors that blend, enhance and complement one another. Your future AASL president needs to see the big picture.

As AASL president I will be selecting volunteers to fill positions based on blending talents and enhancing strengths to match the right person to the right job as a complementary addition to teams. In quilting pieces of fabric are cut apart and sewn into a new combination. In the position of AASL president, I will be listening to the needs of many and combining those needs into new actions that AASL will address.

Quilting requires patience and determination since some ideas do not always work out the way you want. You sometimes need the help of a friendly fellow quilter or your quilting bee when you are struggling or bewildered.

Issues of support for the school library media profession are becoming critical in many of our states. Many in the profession are struggling to keep jobs and bewildered about where to turn for help. With patient determination, the help of state studies, national research findings and friends of school libraries we can work together to seek solutions to the issues.
